This patent describes an apparatus. It comprises: at lest one rod assembly; a crank having an axis of crank rotation; at least one crankpin having a center; at lest one connector means adapted to be attached to the at least one crankpin; a resulting distance from the center of rotation of the connector means to the crankpin center; the rod stroke length of travel being equal to substantially four times the radius of crank rotation; interface means between the housing interface and the connector interface; the interface means being positioned to engage at least during the predetermined distance portion of midstroke; the predetermined distance portion of midstroke is that distance necessary to insure continuity of connector means movement of up to about 60 degrees of crank rotation both before and after the center of midstroke.
