A discussion is given on the purpose and recent efforts of SEPIS, the Scientific-Engineering Power Industry Society of the USSR. The society organizes scientific and engineering conferences on different problems in power and electrical engineering, takes part in development of long range plans for the development of fuel and power, works on particular proposals and recommendations with regard to speeding up the rate and increasing the volume of electrification of the USSR both for a five-year and a longer period; conducts republican, regional and all-Union inspections of plans for new technology, which with establishment of public control promotes successful fulfillment of these plans.
