Guide to energy tax credits

This is the first of a series of three articles prepared by members of a law firm which provides services in the field of energy law and policy. It is intended to help users understand tax credit provisions so that they can use them and be prepared to petition the Congress where needed for their expansion or modification. This first article discusses residential energy credits. The second will address the various credits available for investment in conservation and renewable energy sources by business and industry. The final article will discuss certain IRS procedures available under current law, analyze the theory behind the credits, and outline some suggestions for legislative change. 26 references.
