Magnetic penetration depth and flux-pinning effects in high-T/sub c/ superconductor La/sub 1. 85/Sr/sub 0. 15/CuO

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. B: Condens. Matter; (United States)
We have performed muon-spin-relaxation (..mu..SR) measurements on La/sub 1.85/Sr/sub 0.15/CuO/sub 4/ above and below its superconducting transition temperature, T/sub c/ = 37 K. From transverse-field ..mu..SR at 6 K, the magnetic penetration depth is lambdaapprox. =2500 A, which, together with previous thermodynamic data and the London formula, implies a carrier density of 0.3 x 10/sup 22/ cm/sup -3/. The temperature dependence of lambda in our sintered powder sample differs from that for an ordinary homogeneous superconductor. We also show that the longitudinal- and transverse-field ..mu..SR techniques are sensitive probes of H/sub c//sub 1/ and flux-pinning effects.
