Exchange of methane, ethane, and propane with deuterium on silica-supported nickel catalyst

Journal Article · · J. Catal.; (United States)

The rates and product patterns for the exchange of methane, ethane, and propane on nickel/silica catalysts are reported. The principal products were CH/sub 3/D and CH/sub 4/ for methane, C/sub 2/H/sub 4/D/sub 2/, C/sub 2/H/sub 2/D/sub 4/, and C/sub 2/D/sub 6/ for ethane, and C/sub 3/H/sub 7/D and C/sub 3/H/sub 6/D/sub 2/ for propane. The results are interpreted in terms of competition between deuterium and hydrocarbon molecules for adsorption on different specific surface sites. 8 figures, 3 tables.
