Pulse-periodic Y/sub 3/Al/sub 5/O/sub 12/:Er/sup 3 +/ laser with high activator concentration

The development of a pulsed Y/sub 3/Al/sub 5/O/sub 12/:Er/sup 3 +/ laser (/sup 4/I/sub 11/2/--/sup 4/I/sub 13/2/ transition, lambda=2.94 ..mu..) with activator concentrations of 30 wt.% (T=300 /sup 0/K) is reported. A pulse repetition frequency of f=20 Hz was obtained under free-oscillation and Q-switched conditions. Stimulated emission due to this transition at T=300 /sup 0/K was obtained over the whole concentration series of the Y/sub 3/Al/sub 5/O/sub 12/--Er/sub 3/Al/sub 5/O/sub 12/ system with Er/sup 3 +/ concentrations of between 10 and 100 wt.%.
