Combined in situ combustion-water injection oil recovery process
Patent
·
OSTI ID:6649520
This is an oil-recovery process wherein oxygen and water are simultaneously injected into the formation to displace oil from it. Gas containing free oxygen is injected through an input well to propagate a forward combustion front toward an output well. The concentration of free oxygen within the gas is maintained at least 80-90%. Water is injected through the same input well into the formation in a quantity sufficient to maintain water permeability in the formation between the input well and the combustion front and also to reduce the temperature of the heated portion of the formation. The quantity of water injected is at least about 4 lb per lb of injected free oxygen but not more than about 6 lb of water per lb of injected free oxygen. The amount of water injected should be sufficient to extinguish this combustion. (8 claims)
