Prescission neutron emission from [sup 104]Pd

Neutron spectra in coincidence with fission fragments have been measured for the 190 MeV [sup 28]Si+[sup 76]Ge populating [sup 104]Pd compound nucleus at [ital E][sub [ital x]][similar to]133 MeV excitation energy. The extracted prescission multiplicity for symmetric splitting is [nu][sub pre]=1.1[plus minus]0.2. The average fission time [tau][sub [ital F]]=6[sub [minus]2][sup +3][times]10[sup [minus]20] s is determined, in good agreement with the systematics of Hinde [ital et] [ital al]. for heavier systems ([ital A][ge]125 compound nuclei).
