Title: Collisional relaxation of CO/sub 2/ (X /sup 1/. sigma. /sup +//sub g/) (00/sup 0/1) and CO(X /sup 1/. sigma. /sup +/)(v=1) by some perfluoroalkyl bromides and iodides

The rate constants for the collisional relaxation of vibrationally excited CO/sub 2/ (00/sup 0/1) and CO (v=1) molecules by some perfluoroalkyl bromide and iodide molecules have been determined by the laser induced fluorescence technique. The measured rates were k/sub CO/sub 2/--CF/sub 3/Br/=1.47 +- 0.05 x 10/sup 5/ s/sup -1/xtorr/sup -1/, k/sub CO/sub 2/--C/sub 2/F/sub 5/Br/=1.67 +- 0.05 s/sup -1/xtorr/sup -1/, k/sub CO/sub 2/--CF/sub 3/I/=2.69 +- 0.08 x 10/sup 5/ s/sup -1/xtorr/sup -1/, k/sub CO/sub 2/--C/sub 2/F/sub 5/I/=0.99 +- 0.04 x 10/sup 5/ s/sup -1/xtorr/sup -1/, k/sub CO/sub 2/--n/-C/sub 3/F/sub 7/I=1.16 +- 0.07 x 10/sup 5/ s/sup -1/xtorr/sup -1/, and k/sub CO--CF/sub 3/Br/=819 +- 39 s/sup -1/xtorr/sup -1/. The relevance of these rates to E..-->..V transfer lasers is discussed. A new and very liable determination of the self-relaxation rate constant of pure CO/sub 2/ has also been determined: this rate is k/sub CO/sub 2/--CO/sub 2//=305 +- 6 s/sup -1/xtorr/sup -1/.
