Elastic pion scattering from /sup 6,7/Li and /sup 12,13/C

Elastic scattering of 50 MeV ..pi../sup +/ projectiles from targets of /sup 6,7/Li and /sup 12,13/C has been studied. Effects due to isotopic differences between targets are clearly visible in the data. The results are compared to three model descriptions for the cross section ratios for isotope pairs; in the case of /sup 12/C-/sup 13/C a simple core-plus-valence-neutron model works well for /sup 13/C if the core (/sup 12/C) potential describes observed /sup 12/C elastic scattering. Such a model does not work for the /sup 6/Li-/sup 7/Li ratio due to improper treatment of the scattering process and the quadrupole moments of the Li ground states.
