Constraints on Higgs-boson masses in E sub 6 models from CERN LEP experiments

We examine how CERN LEP experimental limits on {ital Z}{r arrow}{ital hf{bar f}} and {ital Z}{r arrow}{ital hA} decays constrain E{sub 6} multi-Higgs-boson models. We show that the limits on standard and supersymmetric Higgs bosons are easily applied to a multi-Higgs-boson model if it acts like an effective two-doublet model at the {ital W}-{ital Z} mass scale. In the large-{ital M}{sub {ital Z}2} limit of the alternative left-right E{sub 6} model the lightest Higgs-scalar mass {ital m}{sub {ital h}} must be above 20 GeV (assuming {ital m}{sub {ital h}}{gt}2{ital m}{sub {mu}}); also tan{beta}={ital v}{sub 2}/{ital v}{sub 1} less than 0.58 is excluded. In the minimal rank-5 E{sub 6} model there are no absolute limits on individual parameters, although substantial regions of {ital m}{sub {ital h}}, {ital m}{sub {ital A}}, and {ital m}{sub {ital H}}{sup {plus minus}} versus tan{beta} are excluded. We indicate the improvements in the Higgs-boson mass bounds that may be achieved with increased statistics.
