Construction continues on the final phase of a two-year program to install the longest and largest carbon dioxide trunkline to date. The $1.2-billion, 813-km, 762-mm (505-mi, 30-in.) Cortez Pipe Line Co. CO/sub 2/ trunkline now is reaching construction completion stages by Willbros Energy Services, Tulsa. The Cortez system, constructed by Shell Pipe Line Co., extends from Cortez, on the Colorado side of the Four Corners area, to near Denver City, Texas. Sources of the CO/sub 2/ are wells in the Doe Canyon field in Dolores County and McElmo Dome field in Montezuma County, Colo. The CO/sub 2/ transported in dense vapor stage, single phase flow, will be injected into wells in the Wasson field in West Texas. The Willbros contract is the longest single big-inch pipe line construction project awarded to one contractor for work in the continental U.S. It is also the heaviest pipe line in the 30-in. size, with pipe wall thicknesses ranging from 17.47-mm to 25.4-mm (688-in. to 1-in.).
