The current programs of Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) promote collaborative research, education and training, curriculum development and assessment, policy studies, and technical assistance involving universities, industry and government. Most of its collaborative work with academe and government laboratories is funded through its US Department of Energy (DOE) Management and Operating (M and O) contract. However, some of its work under the DOE contract is sponsored by private sector funding from organizations such as the Electric Power Research Institute and the Gas Research Institute. Other work is funded strictly through grants to ORAU under its 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt status.
