Section 400 of the Coal Gasification/Combined Cycle Pilot Plant is designed to recover 1355 lb/h of molten sulfur by the Claus process. The sulfur is recovered from the sour water stripper gas of Section 200 (Water Wash, Sour Water Stripping, and Sludge Removal Unit) and from the acid gas of Section 300 (Selexol Unit). The unit basically consists of the following major components: an air blower, an air and acid gas preheater, a muffle furnace, a waste heat exchanger, four reactors and four condensers, three reactor feed heaters, a sulfur pit and a sulfur storage tank, a sulfur scrubber, and three sulfur pumps.
