Oil market in the 1980s: OPEC oil policy and economic development

Book ·
OSTI ID:6633201
A new framework for analyzing the oil market takes into account and assesses both the political and economic issues relevant to the world oil market in the 1980s. The book begins with a history of the major events in the international oil market during the last two decades, then describes the social, economic, and political conditions prevailing in individual Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) countries and how these conditions may have affected oil policies. It is shown that OPEC countries differ widely in population characteristics, per-capita income, oil wealth, and the political beliefs of their leaders. Later chapters present a mathematical formulation of the problem, develop composite supply-and-demand curves, and project potential oil markets and market behavior in the 1980s. 31 figures, 35 tables.
