This article describes the use of thyristor-based controllers for more efficient and reliable power line performance. The topics of the article include the flexible ac transmission system, linking power systems, limiting parameters for power flow, the static var compensator, the subsynchronous resonance damper, the thyristor-controlled series capacitor, the static condenser, the phase angle regulator and maximizing capacity.
