Launchers and transmission systems for electron-cyclotron heating

The transmission and launching schemes for ECH experiments at 28 GHz in the JFT-2 tokamak and at 60 GHz in Doublet III are described. The 28-GHz system uses fundamental mode waveguide and a steerable phased-array antenna, while the 60-GHz system uses the TE/sub 01/ circular electric model for transmission in over-moded waveguide and a TE/sub 01/ to TE/sub 11/ mode converter at the antenna. The extrapolation of the 60-GHz scheme to higher frequency and power is discussed.
