Title: Separation of /sup 241/Am from calcium and lead using masking and multiple oxalate precipitation techniques

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6625790

Savannah River Laboratory (SRL) and Savannah River Plant (SRP) have been separating actinides for more than 35 years. Work continues to upgrade processes and to initiate new processes. This report summarizes work to improve oxalate precipitation decontamination of /sup 241/Am by use of masking agents. Ammonium nitrate was found to be an effective agent. It has been demonstrated to effectively retain both calcium and lead in solution during oxalate precipitation on both a laboratory and production scale. Other masking agents were tried with varying degrees of success. 28 refs., 3 figs., 11 tabs.
