Well servicing, recompletion of steam injection in wells important
The services that the contractor can be expected to furnish the steam recovery producer include the following: (1) Old well workover will include pressure testing and casing repair; (2) sand will be subject to cleanout and the casing scraped; (3) new wellhead equipment will be installed; (4) if packers are to be run, rods and tubing must be pulled, and the tubing run back in with packer prior to steam-injection cycle; (5) after steaming, well must be equalized and packer pulled, and metal-to-metal pump, tubing, and rods are rerun; (6) steaming sometimes increases sand problem and frequently causes breakdown of sand-like sludge on the sand face, calling for extensive sand bailer work; and (7) to counter sand bailing, many operators are installing ceramic or slotted sand liners in the pay section, which the contractor will run. To perform these vital contractor services, a minimum of special equipment and tools is called for. Most major oil companies and many of the independent operators have fixed safety rules designed to protect all personnel. The well servicing contractor and his crew must know how to handle hot water, hot oil, and hot metal. Most operators permit well servicing during daylight hours only for all wells that have been steamed.
