This is a method for producing an oil-bearing stratum by fluid drive displacement using a well pattern including a central well pattern including a central well and an even number of at least 4 surrounding wells in a conventional odd-numbered-spot pattern. The driving fluid is injected through alternate surrounding wells. The driven oil is produced through the central well and through the remaining surrounding wells as producing wells. The back-pressure on the producing wells is maintained and controlled so as to effect breakthrough (production of displacing fluid) at the producing wells substantially at the same time. Injection of driving fluid through the injection wells is continued until breakthrough at all of the producing wells occurs.
