Indexable caster adjusting plate for motor vehicles
This patent describes a motor vehicle suspension including an axle, a wheel carrier pivoted to the axle, and a radius arm attached at its first end to the axle and at its second end to the chassis of the motor vehicle, with the first end of the radius arm being bifurcated. Each member of the bifurcation contains an aperture for a fastener extending through the aperture into the axle. One member of the bifurcation is attached to the upper half of the axle and the other member of the bifurcation is attached to the lower half of the axle. The improvement described here comprises a caster adjusting plate attached to one of the member of the bifurcation, with the caster adjusting plate including an aperture for the fastener extending into the axle. The caster adjusting plate comprises means for rotating the axle and the wheel carrier about a transverse axis a predetermined amount relative to the first end of the radius arm, whereby the caster angle of the suspension will be adjusted.
