Title: Discovery of good Hunton production speeds Mills Ranch development

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)

A map shows the location of the Mills Ranch. The discovery of excellent Hunton production at Aledo field in Custer County, Oklahoma, and in Buffalo Wallow and Washita Creek fields in Hemphill County, Texas, caused an accelerated play during the past 8 yr for additional Hunton fields in the deep Anadarko Basin. Mills Ranch field is developing into one of the largest fields found in this area, during this period, and may become the largest and deepest to date in the deep Anadarko Basin. The Hunton was the primary objective in this area but the Arbuckle was discovered by deeper drilling and the world's deepest production resulted. Wells to date have drilled to depths of below 26,500 ft to find this production. The Mills Ranch complex is located on the southwest edge of the deep Anadarko Basin in the southeast corner of Wheeler County, Texas. It is evidently part of a deep buried granite ridge which was uplifted along a large thrust fault which controls the main gas accumulation especially in the Hunton Zone. This ridge extends northwest to southeast for 15 miles or more from Wheeler County, Texas, into Beckham County, Oklahoma. Several separate structures and reservoirs associated with faulting are located along this trend and production is found chiefly from the Hunton and Arbuckle sections.
