Cost of pipeline and compressor station construction under non-budget type of certificate authorizations as reported by pipeline companies in fiscal year 1973 (July 1, 1972 through June 30, 1973)
Total aggregate pipeline and compressor station construction expenditures reported in fiscal 1973 were 18.5% below those reported in fiscal 1972. Average costs per mile of transmission pipeline construction were generally comparable to costs reported in recent years with thirty-inch diameter pipe costs averaging considerably higher and thirty-six inch diameter pipe costs averaging below 1972 average costs. For offshore pipelines the average costs per mile were considerably higher than costs reported in 1972. For reciprocating compressors the average cost per horsepower installed as reported in 1973 was higher than those reported in 1972 for new compressor stations, and lower for additions to existing transmission compressor stations as related to the average cost reported during the past several years. For new field and storage reciprocating compressor stations and additions, the cost was comparable with costs reported in recent years. Costs reported in 1973 for all gas turbine driven compressors installed at transmission stations were below costs reported for the past several years. However, costs reported for new and additions to field and storage compressor stations in 1973 were comparable with previous years. Thirty-five pipeline companies filed cost statements in 56 dockets during fiscal 1973 covering completion of 134 onshore and 17 offshore construction projects. The projects included construction of a total of 1,530 miles of pipelines and 503,163 compressor horsepower. This compares with 2,084 miles of pipeline and 608,403 compressor horsepower reported in fiscal 1972. Total expenditures for pipelines and compressors reported by the 35 pipeline companies in 1973 amounted to $392,609,776 compared with $481,877,111 reported in 1972.
