Quantum-chromodynamic predictions for deep-inelastic J/psi production

New data on deep-inelastic J/psi production by muons show a large inelastic cross section. We show that the energy, Q/sup 2/, and p/sub T/ dependences of both the elastic and inelastic data are in agreement with the predictions of the photon-gluon-fusion model extended to include higher-order corrections. A striking correlation between the lepton and J/psi scattering planes is predicted which tests further the relevance of this perturbative production mechanism.
