The Acadian Spirit, the first in an anticipated fleet of innovative jack-up rigs to be owned and operated by Huthnance Drilling Co., comprises a heavy-duty platform rig capable of drilling to 25,000 ft and a Bethlehem Steel Corp. jack-up vessel designed to operate in water depths from 12 to 122 ft. The main advantage of the jack-up is its flexibility: Any of Huthnance Drilling's five self-contained platform rigs quickly join or separate from the vessel. Using these interchangeable rigs, the Acadian Spirit can also function as a mobile production platform, crew-accommodations barge for up to 400 personnel, derrick/construction barge, and fire-fighting/well-control facility.
