Senate hearings on a bill passed by the House on August 25, 1980, are recorded in this document. The bill would provide a program for advanced and accelerated research into methane vehicle design, methane distribution systems, and methane storage facilities. It would also demonstrate the economic and technological practicalities of methane-fueled vehicles for fleet use and on farm operations. The DOE would be the lead agency to conduct this research program. The bill would result in the initiation of 50 fleet demonstrations, of no less than 50 vehicles each, over the next 3 years. Appropriations of $3,000,000 for the fiscal year ending September 30, 1982, $5,000,000 for the fiscal year ending September 20, 1983, and $5,000,000 for the fiscal year ending September 30, 1984, are to be authorized for the purposes of carrying out this Act.
