Six of the book's 21 chapters review general issues surrounding these metals, such as human health concerns, atmospheric emissions, and biogeochemical cycling. About an equal amount of space is devoted to more site-specific issues, both in developed countries and in developing areas. The remainder of the book consists of valuable group reports, one on each of the four metals, which discuss the current state of knowledge and make recommendations for future work.
