First measurements of pion production on polarized targets in reactions {pi}{sup +}{ital n}{sub {up arrow}}{r arrow}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{ital p} and {ital K}{sup +}{ital n}{sub {up arrow}}{r arrow}{ital K}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{ital p} at 6 and 12 GeV/{ital c} and in {pi}{sup {minus}}{ital p}{r arrow}{pi}{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup +}{ital n} at 17.2 GeV/{ital c} provide direct information on the momentum-transfer evolution of dimeson-mass dependence of moduli squared of production amplitudes for dimeson masses below 1000 MeV and {minus}{ital t}{approx lt}0.6 (GeV/{ital c}){sup 2}. We observe significant and complex dependence of pion production processes on nucleon spin and dimeson helicity, with unexpected structures near resonant masses.
