Relativistic kinetic theory of a system of cosmic strings: General formalism

Journal Article · · Ann. Phys. (N.Y.); (United States)
The formalism of the relativistic kinetic theory is adapted to the one-dimensional string's structure in order to describe the macroscopic properties of a system of cosmic strings. A distribution function is defined on the phase space by considering the number of intersections of the strings with a 2-dimensional space-like surface. The number current and the energy-momentum tensors are given in term of the distribution function. Their conservation laws depend on a collision term representing the interactions between the strings. This term is a vector quantity and a possible expression is proposed. The problem of the definition of the entropy is investigated. copyright 1987 Academic Press, Inc.
