The V International Congress of Ecology, sponsored by the International Association for Ecology (INTECOL), was held in Yokohama, Japan, August 23--30, 1990. The theme of the meeting was development of ecological perspectives for the 21st century.'' INTECOL congresses held every 4 years, provide the primary mechanism for ecologists from around the world to share results of current ecological research. Over 2500 ecologists representing more than 70 countries attended. The program included plenary lectures, symposia, poster sessions, and field excursions.
