Current status of the world trade in LNG

Journal Article · · Energy Top.; (United States)

International trade growth in liquefied natural gas (LNG) will flatten out during the middle 1980s, although studies show a healthy market in pipeline gas and LNG through the year 2000, with an annual increase of 6 to 9% between 1980 and 2000. Political and commercial factors will decide whether the growth rate is smooth or a step function. A review of currently operational projects shows that deliveries to Japan from Asia, Alaska, and the Middle East have met their contracts, but North Africa's deliveries to Europe have not. Two projects now under construction will deliver gas to Japan and will bring world trade volumes to 6.67 billion cubic feet per day. A comparison of 10 projects describes the status of each. 3 tables. (DCK)
