The objective of this program is to study, both from an experimental and theoretical perspective, coupled-with-power CO/sub 2/ waveguide lasers. This study is concerned with, but not limited to, hollow-bore ridge-waveguide laser arrays. The ability to achieve phase-locked operation of two-and three-element under a previous AFOSR contact. In the present program, the authors are exploring the scalability of the hollow-bore ridge-waveguide-array concept to larger linear arrays and two-dimensional arrays. This is being accomplished by fabricating, operating, and characterizing a variety of laser arrays and by conducting analyses to help interpret the observed operational characteristics and point the way to improvements in the performance of the laser arrays.
