Analyzing powers for the [sup 12]C([sup 6]L[rvec i],[alpha])[sup 14]N[sup *] reaction at 33 MeV

Angular distributions of the cross section and the first complete set of analyzing powers for [sup 12]C([sup 6]L[rvec i],[alpha])[sup 14]N have been measured over the range 4[degree][le][theta][sub lab][le]29[degree] at a bombarding energy of 33 MeV. The [sup [ital T]][ital T][sub 20] analyzing power data are shown to distinguish between natural and unnatural parity states in [sup 14]N as observed earlier in ([ital [rvec d]],[alpha]) reactions. General rules are presented for tensor analyzing powers for transfers to 0[sup [plus minus]] and 1[sup [plus minus]] states that are derived assuming only conservation of parity and total angular momentum. Finite-range deuteron cluster transfer DWBA calculations which allowed coherent multiple [ital L] transfers were carried out and compared with the data. The analyzing powers exhibited sensitivity to [ital L] mixing including the presence of [ital D] states in both [sup 6]Li and [sup 14]N but had limited success in describing the data.
