Identification of /sup 182/Pb in /sup 40/Ca irradiations of /sup 147/Sm

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)

The ..cap alpha.. decay of /sup 182/Pb was identified in bombardments of /sup 147/Sm with /sup 40/Ca ions. Its ..cap alpha..-decay energy and half-life were determined to be 6.919 +- 0.015 MeV and 55/sub -35//sup +40/ ms, respectively. The nuclidic assignment was based on excitation-function and cross-bombardment (/sup 39/K+/sup 147/Sm) data and on decay-energy systematics. From the known mass of /sup 178/Hg and the 6.919-MeV ..cap alpha..-decay energy we deduce the mass excess of /sup 182/Pb to be (-6823 +- 25) keV. Also, a half-life of 300 +- 80 ms was measured for /sup 183/Pb.
