Development of a new wringer for the zero-relative-velocity belt skimmer. Final report, June--October 1977

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6598192
A simpler, lighter, and less expensive wringer mechanism has been developed for the ZRV Skimmer, a sorbent belt oil spill recovery vessel for use in fast currents. The new design, consisting of a large perforated drum and smaller peripheral rollers, is recommended to replace the original opposed conveyor design in the prototype skimmer. Performance tests comparing full-scale (but unit width) mock-ups of the new and original wringers showed that the new design works as well or better and requires less power than the original. A brief summary of other changes made in the ZRV design is included as an appendix to this report. (Author)
