The design of the ZEUS backing calorimeter data acquisition and trigger system

The authors outline the design of the transputer network used as the data acquisition and second level trigger engine for the Backing Calorimeter of the ZEUS experiment at DESY. The system consists at present of 32 INMOS T800 processor working in the VME bus environment. Conceptual design of the processor network and software is presented.
