Observational evolution of the central stars of planetary nebulae

Preliminary H-R tracks of planetary nebula centgral stars are obtained using (1) Zanstra H and He temperatures and (2) Hummer-Mihalas plane-parallel atmosphere models as modified to fit observations. For the first time it is possible to include optically thick planetaries on the H-R diagram due to Daub's recently published distance scale for optically thick planetaries. The resulting sequence of evolutionary tracks of the planetaries fits satisfactorily with their Mira predecessors.
