Q-switching of an optical resonator by a stimulated Brillouin scattering mirror

The role of four-wave processes in Q-switching of an optical resonator by a stimulated-Brillouin-scattering mirror is experimentally investigated. It is shown that these processes are responsible for the transverse development of a monopulse from a pair of opposing priming light beams initially produced in the relatively narrow channel of the resonator. Q switching in an optical resonator with a neodymium-glass active element is achieved by a four-wave stimulated-Brillouin-scattering mirror produced in a light pipe whose diameter is much smaller than the transverse dimension of the resonator. It is proved that high-grade wavefront reversal takes place when the generated radiation is reflected from the produced nonlinear mirror.
