The present conference discussed topics encompassing the fields of optical computing architectures and algorithms, processors, interconnections, and associative memory and symbolic processing. Attention is given to an optical Fredkin gate, a microcomputer-based real time optical signal processing system, device aplications of ferroelectric liquid crystals, optical switching using stimulated Rayleigh scattering, and low optical switching energy nsec-response bistable devices. Also discussed are dynamic optical interconnections for parallel processors, programmable optical interconnections based on the bilinear transform, an adaptive two-dimensional holographic associative processor, shift invariance in optical associative memories, and self-organization, association, and categorization in a phase-conjugating resonator.
