Acceleration of nonrelativistic particles in a microtron

We consider the possibility of microtron acceleration of nonrelativistic particles, specifically protons in the energy range 1--500 MeV. Synchronism between the motion of the particles and the oscillations of the accelerating field is achieved by reducing the period of revolution of the particles from turn to turn by an amount which is a multiple of the period of the accelerating field. The restrictions imposed on the parameters of the microtron are given. The longitudinal motion of the particles is discussed in the linear approximation. The condition for phase stability in a separated nonrelativistic microtron is given.
