Apparatus for electrically interconnecting multi-sectional well tools

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6591609
A well tool is described comprising: a first tubular body having an end portion with internal tapered threads; a second tubular body having an end portion with external tapered threads adapted to be coengaged within the internally-threaded end portion of the first tool body for drawing the tool bodies together and into axial alignment along a common longitudinal axis as the tool bodies are rotated relative to one another to threadedly couple the tool bodies together; first and second electrical connector means coaxially arranged within the first and second bodies respectively and adapted to be interconnected with one another as the tool bodies are threadedly coupled together; and first and second mounting means respectively arranged within the first and second bodies and adapted to be selectively adjusted for axially positioning the first and second connector means therein before the tool bodies are threadedly coupled together so that the externally-threaded end portion of the second tool body will not contact the first connector means as the threaded end portions are being initially coengaged and the first and second electrical connector means will be interconnected as the tool bodies are being subsequently drawn into axial alignment.
