Here's what's cooking on gas price controls

Journal Article · · Nation's Bus.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6588576
The gradual deregulation of new gas prices outlined in the Natural Gas Policy Act leaves 40 to 50% of US old gas under price controls until the wells are depleted. Many commerical users, who make up 75% of natural gas customers, would pay a higher price to get long-term supply and price stability. Whether Congress or the Administration will push for additional decontrol this year is problematical because of the political climate, but a harsh winter and the growing federal deficit could provide incentives for action to end the current price distortions.
