This study is intended to give necessary data for consideration of blasting conditions in a borehole. This resistance probe method for the measurement of detonation velocity in a borehole is improved (and henceforth will be called improved resistance probe method) and used to measure detonation velocity in a borehole for different explosives. Detonation velocity for different explosives are measured using both Dautriche's method and the improved resistance probe method. The results were compared and it was found that they were very identical. Thus, it was proved that the improved resistance probe method can give accurate values of detonation velocity. The detonation velocity for TNT slurry explosive and granular TNT explosive also was measured at limestone quarry by employing the improved resistance probe method. It was found that detonation velocity for these explosives showed large value just after priming, then it gradually decreased, and finally attained a rather steady value.
