Measurement of the cross section for the process. nu. /sub. mu. / + e/sup -/. -->. nu. /sub. mu. / + e- at high energies

There were 11 events of the reaction ..nu../sub ..mu../ + e/sup -/..-->.. ..nu../sub ..mu../ + e/sup -/ observed in a sample of 106,000 charged current neutrino interactions in a heavy neon--hydrogen mixture in the 15 ft. bubble chamber at Fermilab. A cross section was obtained for this process of (1.8 +- 0.8) x 10/sup -42/ E/sub ..nu../ cm/sup -2/, where E/sub ..nu../ is the incident neutrino energy in units of GeV. This result is in good agreement with the prediction of the Weinberg--Salam model with sin/sup 2/theta/sub w/ = 0.2. 10 references.
