Compressor station on the Transmediterranean Gas Pipeline and their peculiarities

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6586385
The Transmediterranean Gas Pipeline is one of the greatest projects realized by SNAM in the last few years, and some compressor stations, 3 of which are installed in Tunisia and 5 in Italy, have very interesting characteristics. For example, in the FERIANA Station which is situated on the border between Algeria and Tunisia, in the proximity of the Gas Metering Plant where the gas is measured, some special devices have been installed to avoid noise or bump in flow effect on measurement due particularly to unit starting/stopping. The CAP BON Station is situated at the head of the sea-lines across teh Sicilian Channel and must be able to compress the contractual quantity of gas even if one of the sea-lines is out of service. For this there is a parallel or parallel/series operation of the units. In the MESSINA Station a heat recovery plant (Combined Cycle) is in an advanced stage of construction. This plant recovers the exhaust gas heat of one unit and the energy produced operates a steam turbine coupled with a gas compressor, obtaining a considerable in saving fuel costs.
