Solar power supply and battery charging circuit
This patent describes a solar power supply and battery charging circuit which consists of: a photovoltaic solar energy source of direct current; a secondary battery coupled with the photovoltaic solar energy source for being charged; control circuit means coupled with the battery to sense the state of charge. The control circuit means comprising a voltage comparator and a voltage reference circuit means, the voltage comparator coupled to the voltage reference circuit means. The secondary battery produces signals on an output indicative of a predetermined relationship between the voltages supplied; a short-circuit shunt open/closed switch means coupled across the entire photovoltaic solar energy source to place a full dead short circuit across the photovoltaic energy source; pulse width generator means coupled to the output of the voltage comparator and operated in response to the signals on the output of the comparator to produce output pulses of varying width proportional to the state of charge sensed by the control circuit means.
