Designs for low energy houses
Technical Report

Space heating requirements have been calculated and compared for typical British family housing with insulation levels (a) meeting the 1975 Building Regulations and (b) U-values of 0.3 (W/(m squared)K) for the walls, roof and floor and 2.5 (W/(m squared)K) for windows. The contribution of free heat to space heating is estimated together with the possible contribution of a ventilation heat recovery system. Some designs and performance requirements of well insulated houses and heating equipment are discussed.
