Nuclear moments of the first excited state of /sup 22/Ne from /sup 22/Ne(132 MeV)+ /sup 208/Pb scattering
Elastic and inelastic cross section data for exciting the /sup 22/Ne 2/sub 1//sup +/ (1.27 MeV) state by 132 MeV /sup 22/Ne scattering from a /sup 208/Pb target are presented. The data are analyzed by a rotational model coupled-channels calculation including the 0/sup +/ ground state and the 2/sub 1//sup +/, and 4/sub 1//sup +/ states of /sup 22/Ne. We extract ..beta../sub 2/ and ..beta../sub 4/ deformation parameters, as well as M(E2;0/sup +/-2/sub 1//sup +/), M(E2;2/sub 1//sup +/-2/sub 1//sup +/), M(E4;0/sup +/-4/sub 1//sup +/), and M(E2;2/sub 1//sup +/- 4/sub 1//sup +/) matrix elements for /sup 22/Ne and compare these quantities to those obtained for /sup 20/Ne. The extracted 2/sub 1//sup +/ reorientation matrix element is considerably larger than shell-model predictions. Addition of a negative spin-orbit potential improves the fit to the 2/sub 1//sup +/ differential cross section.
