Numerical analysis of the electromagnetic wave spectrum in a plasma-filled waveguide

The dispersion relation is analyzed numerically in order to find the frequency spectrum of the electromagnetic waves in a magnetized electron plasma which completely fills a metal waveguide. Axisymmetric modes with l=0 and asymmetric modes with l=+1 are studied. There is an ''expulsion'' of the dispersion curves from a certain region of the frequency-wave vector plane. As the plasma electron density is increased, the dimensions of this region also increase. Excitation of electromagnetic waves by a relativistic electron beam in this plasma-filled waveguide is discussed.
