Scattering of /sup 28/Si from /sup 208/Pb

Elastic and inelastic scattering of /sup 28/Si on /sup 208/Pb have been investigated at 209.8 MeV with high resolution. The angular distributions can be well described by coupled channel calculations when the ion-ion potential has a diffusivity of 0.65 fm. Deformation lengths extracted are in good agreement with those obtained from analysis of light ion reaction data.
